The Registered Dental Assistant performs supportive procedures in the clinical treatment of patients. The Registered Dental Assistant is responsible and accountable for direct and indirect patient care. Applicants must possess a current valid Registered Dental Assistant license from the State Board of Examiners, State of California, a Dental Radiology certificate and a Coronal Polishing certificate.

Salary: Annual $34,812 – $38,424

Work Schedule: 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., M-F

JOB SUMMARY:

DIRECT PATIENT CARE
Prepares dental operatories and patients for dental procedures.
Places and removes temporary sedative dressing.
Assists the general dentist and specialists in all oral procedures (four handed dentistry).

Takes dental radiographs of diagnostic quality.

Performs coronal polishing.

Takes impressions for opposing diagnostic models,
Fabricates temporary crowns.

Applies topical fluoride.

Removes sutures from extraction sites under dentist’s supervision.

Assists dentist with documentation of patient charts.

INDIRECT PATIENT CARE
Makes appointments and keeps dental clinic records.
Performs reception, typing and filing function of dental office.
Maintains supply and equipment inventory and assists with ordering supplies.
Implements preventive maintenance of all dental equipment.

Arranges for repair of equipment.
Maintains the operatory cabinets & storage areas.

Cleans vacuum system on a daily basis.

Maintains distilled water system.
Data entry.

Does daily, weekly and monthly maintenance on various dental equipment.

REQUIRED:

Knowledgeable of all OSHA standards for infection control and sterilization.
Must understand/know the numbering system for all teeth.
Must know terminology for all teeth surfaces and have experience charting.
Must know how to mix sedative dressing for placement and removal.
Must know how to do 4-handed dentistry.

Accurate knowledge of and be licensed to take all periapical and bite wing dental x-rays.
Experience with typing and filing.
