Interfaith Community Services is seeking a Psychiatric Clinical Nurse Specialist/Counselor for its Veterans Department that will work at both our Inland and Coastal locations. The role of the Nurse/Counselor is crucial in identifying and removing barriers to care, providing fair and thorough assessments, and making available first-rate care to those veterans who are entitled to quality health care.

The Nurse/Counselor acts as an intermediary between the physician and the client to ensure the safe and effective use of the prescribed medication. This requires reinforcements such as continuous education in drug therapy, diligent observations for relapse, and early interventions with clients experiencing adverse side effects from their medications. The goal is to partner with the veteran in employing appropriate self-management tools to achieve the best physiological, sociological, and behavioral outcomes.

Responsibilities:

1. Maintain the Homeless Veterans Program’s integrity and quality as set forth by Interfaith Community Services.

2. Act as an intermediary between the physician and the client to ensure the safe and effective use of the prescribed medication. This requires reinforcements such as continuous education in drug therapy, diligent observations for relapse, and early interventions with clients experiencing adverse side effects from their medications.

3. Participate in regular administrative and client case review meetings.

4. Develop and implement educational programs and supplementary activities to support veteran participation in their prescribed programs.

5. Facilitate man and woman support groups.

6. Maintain regularly scheduled office hours for referred clients.

7. Maintain an active file on all clients.

8. Be willing to serve as a member of regular committees at Interfaith Community Services.

9. Maintain current knowledge and skills by ongoing learning through attending conferences, classes, and independent study.

Qualifications:

1. Hold a current, active California Registered Nurse license.

2. Hold a Master’s degree in nursing, with a focus in psychiatric nursing.

3. Have a minimum of four years practice in a psychiatric clinical or hospital setting, providing direct care.

4. Have a through knowledge of psychiatric medications commonly used to treat psychiatric disorders.

5. Be able to interface skillfully with the multidisciplinary team at Interfaith Community Services.

6. Be able to demonstrate positive therapeutic relationships with veteran clients seeking services at Interfaith Community Services.

Salary: Commensurate to experience, plus benefits
