Health Supervisor – The Future is Green Summer Temp Program Needed July 19 to August 1, 2010

Oversee the health and safety of girl participants in the Future is Green Program, a robotics, astronomy, and environmental science centered Girl Scouts program from 7/19/2010 to 8/1/2010. This position serves as program nurse. The program will be held at the Presentation Retreat and Conference Center in Los Gatos. The Health Supervisor must be able to live on site for this 2-week period. Daily Pay rate – $90 and room & board is provided. Job Duties and Activities

1. Serve as a role model to girl participants and staff by your actions, appearance, manners, language, and general conduct.
2. Establish contacts with physician and local hospital facilities; obtain orders from the physician; administer first aid; give nursing care in cases of illness and accident as directed by physician; take responsibility for calling the physician when advisable.
3. Establish and maintain regular health center hours.
4. Check basic health status of incoming girl participants as outlined in the Health Care Plan. Collect, review, and maintain health forms and records.
5. Supervise and promote health, sanitation, and safety practices throughout camp. Follow all Girl Scouts and state regulations. Visit program areas once a day to check cleanliness. Implement a system that motivates campers and staff to help ensure the cleanliness of camp.
6. Record all treatment and other health information in bound “Nurse’s Record Book” in compliance with American Camping Association and State Health department regulations; notify and/or other staff members when indicated.
7. Inform Program Director of health conditions of girls and staff members on regular scheduled basis.
8. Notify Program Director when parents should be advised of serious illness or accident. If needed, drive ill/injured persons to the medical clinic using camp vehicles or personal car.
9. Provide Program Director all accident/sickness information necessary for proper forms.
10. Maintain a clean and orderly work environment. Inventory medical supplies and equipment at the beginning and end of camp program.
11. Support the overall Girl Scouts program operations as requested by the camp administration.

Job Requirements

1. Support the beliefs and principles of the Girl Scout Organization. Must be or be willing to become a current member of Girl Scouts organization.
2. Must have at least one of the following certifications or degrees: Current M.D., R.N., E.M.T., or Level II First Aid certification.
3. Current American Red Cross Standard First Aid and CPR certificates.
4. Possession of a driver’s license and clean DMV record.
5. Ability to traverse camp properties and other outdoor sites. Ability to walk at least three miles of rough terrain.
6. Ability to lift and carry 40-50 pounds.
7. Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to communicate effectively by phone.
8. Must be at least 21 years.
9. Must enjoy working with children.
